Importing Ski Tracks into Fitbit
While I was away skiing this year I got into conversation with a few people in our chalet – all of whom use and love Ski Tracks by CoreCorders.
On evening it came up in conversation that we’d all like a way to import our ski runs into Fitbit. After checking the Fitbit forums this seemed like a highly requested feature, so once I got home I set about seeing if it was possible. In short, it is.
Ski Tracks let you export your session tracks in a SKIZ file, basically an archived file containing all the GPS details collected for each run. So using this file I’ve created an online service that imports a SKIZ file, works out each track and creates matching activities on Fitbit.
There is a limitation in the Fitbit API, while it lets you create new activities it doesn’t allow you to upload GPS data for them. As a sort of work around for it my service builds TCX files (a commonly used variation of GPX that supports fitness activities) which can be downloaded and viewed in a compatible TCX viewer.
This project is not supported directly by Core Coders Ltd, the developers of Ski Tracks for all support regarding Ski Tracks/Fitbit Importer please contact me directly – that said, the good folks at Core Coders have been extremely supportive of my work and I want to take the opportunity to thank them!
